It’s always a good idea to follow local businesses on Twitter so that you’re never out of the loop on what’s happening. You don’t want to miss Ron Jeremy slinging booze at Blanchard’s or a killer dinner deal at Garlic ‘n Lemons. Which accounts you follow are dependent on what your tastes are, of course, but there are some accounts that all of Allston would benefit from keeping up with.

Some of my favorite Twitter accounts aren’t just for laughs and to know when there is a free wine tasting that I can walk to.

They’re for keeping up-to-date on what’s going on in my neighborhood, for staying informed. They don’t tweet as much as comedians or @BDPizzaBrighton, but when they do it’s about something important.

ALLSTON VILLAGE MAIN STREETS | @AllstonVillagMS

Allston Village Main Streets is a non-profit whose mission is to make Allston a better place to live. You read that correctly: there are people in the world that care about making our experience better.

Specifically, there is Alana Olsen. As the Executive Director of AVMS she has brought us a lot of great stuff. Painted electrical boxes, murals, Taste of Allston, the Allston Village Farmer’s Market, on and on forever. You can follow her directly at @alanaolsen. She’s working hard for us, and we should tune in to hear what she has to say, there is a reason people love her:

ANGELA HOLM | @ALHAIIBri

Angela Holm is Mayor Menino’s liaison to Allston. She has a pretty thankless and seemingly exhausting job. If something bad happens, if something good happens, Angela is there. Pulled out of bed in the middle of the night to help comfort families caught in a fire, or talking to locals about their concerns at community events, she is always on.

She takes lots of pictures too, and retweets a lot of other great Boston-based accounts full of important information.

Tune into her tweets if you want to know when there’s anything fun and family friendly to do nearby.

ALLSTON BRIGHTON COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION | @AllstnBrightCDC

The Allston Brighton CDC is another group devoted to making Allston and Brighton great places to live. They focus on bringing people together. They are a great place to look for info on meetings about local policy and resources available to residents.

They’re committed to making our community mesh well, and it would help if we as a community stayed engaged and kept up with what they were doing.

YOUR TOWN ALLSTON BRIGHTON | @YourAllstonBri

Your Town Allston Brighton is the dedicated section of the Globe’s coverage of Boston just for us. They share all news information that will affect us, sports information, and stories from BU’s newspaper. It’s a quick way to keep up with what’s happening around us without slogging through all of the Globe. They retweet some good tweets too, and have been known to show some wit from time to time. There are a lot of great human interest stories based around Allston, and since you are all humans who I would assume have interests, you should check them out.

These are only a few of the great Allston twitters, I wish I could write a small blurb about how each and every one of you helps create the Allston we know and love.

Who do you follow to stay up to date?
